#1 Hose clips

Post by peters3103 » Sat Jan 25, 2020 6:00 am

Hi gents,
I’m trying to find the 1” hose clips with nut & bolt used to fasten the engine breather hose as pictured below. Most list a jubilee clip which is what I have now. There is 4 per car. I’ve had a search but I can only find smaller ones in this style. Any suggestions?

What I think you're after is C15886/8.

I checked today and unfortunately we don't have any in the shed and I haven't got any at home.

Thanks Andrew no worries and yes that’s the part number but NLA. The usuals supply a jubilee clip under that part number instead. I’ve found similar type (Tridon NA Series) but not big enough.

Cheers

I believe the ones you are after might actually be 7/8 inch in size. I bought a job-lot of E-Type second-hand spares last spring and, amongst them, there were some original 5/8 and 7/8 hose clips. On my list to get them cleaned up and re-plated. In the J30 3.8 Spares Catalogue, they are shown as C2509/3 (which are also 7/8 inch in size).

Phil, C.2905/3 is the clip securing the flexible pipe to the breather housing. This pipe, which vents to atmosphere, was fitted to the early (first 500?) cars. My November 61 car has the later breather, venting to the air cleaner, requiring 4x C.15886/8 clips for securing the rubber hoses at each end of breather pipe. These are no longer available.

Cheers,
Pete

Hi Pete.... That's helpful re the numbers (the joy of the J30 Parts Catalogue). It highlights that it's always worth cross-checking the 4.2 Parts Catalogue too for the later 3.8s! My car has the later breather (as per the photo in your first post above and therefore requires clip #7 in the useful diagram on XKs Unlimited Website - https://xks.com/i-7080306-jaguar-discon ... 886-8.html).

Interestingly, the 7/8 " clips I've got came off of an S1 E-Type (the person I bought them from was restoring an S1 car and their customer wanted all new modern jubilee clips). I've cleaned one of them up overnight which gives a better picture. It is simply a larger version of the 5/8 " vacuum hose clips which David has pictured on Factory Fit. Logically though, this would be a C15886/7.

Regards

Phil

You are probably correct Phil, my hoses are not genuine Jaguar so are most likely a little larger in outside diameter. The 7/8” clip would most likely work for me but, alas, I haven’t found any yet. I’d settle for one for the breather housing as the other three aren’t that noticeable.

Cheers,
Pete

There is a great photo on page 172 of Haddock showing the two clips connecting the breather pipe, short intermediary hose and air inlet box. These very clearly show the 7/8 " markings on the clasp.

I've also had a good look at the 3.8 Factory Fit pictures (post #3). Car 887530 from 1963 is highlighted as extremely original. Zooming in on one of the engine photos and playing with the contrast of the photo (see below) shows what could be part of a '7' on the clip which would also tie in with these being 7/8 " clips.

Well spotted Sherlock! It maybe too large for a 7 but could it be the / between the 7 & 8 perhaps?
I’ve got the Haddock bible, I’ll check it out.
Thanks Phil.

Nothing in my inbox Phil but I did look at the pic in the Haddock book. Cheers for that and I should’ve done that myself in the first place!

Hi Pete - No problem. Has been useful for me too since I now know for definite that I have the right parts. Re the message, for some reason it is still in the outbox. It simply had a close-up of the picture showing the 7/8 markings to save you looking it up. I've deleted it now given you've looked at the book! I now need to find two more of the clips!

Best Regards

7/8" Hose clips were original on the Mark 2's previous to the straight port models. It may be worth checking with the Mark 2 people for a source . Jagara Spares in Sydney would be a good start.

An interesting and unusual source for these clips, especially for the gents 'down under':

http://www.kas-kilmartin.com.au/AH015%2 ... %20BN4.JPG

They are _the_ source of sheet metal for Healeys.

They also have the 3/4" size.

Incidentally, they also have the C1040/20 clip for the radiator shield (you need 3 of them):
