#1 Removing seats S2 OTS

Post by colinevans » Sun Feb 16, 2020 6:39 pm

Hi Everyone
I need to remove the drivers seat on my S2 OTS to refurb the recliner mechanism. I saw another post about removing them on a 2+2 that said you only need to remove the rear fixings. Is that the same for my car? I can just about get a ring spanner past the exhaust to access the nut nearest the middle of the car but the bolt is spinning and I cant see how to access the bolt head inside the car.
Any advice appreciated!
Colin

Hi Colin - you will need to slide the seats fully forward on the adjuster. That will allow you to see and access the rear fixings from inside the car inside the seat rails. Once these are out, move the whole seat assembly towards the rear - the front of the runners are slotted and fit under a mushroom headed fixing bolt. Then you can lift the seat out.

My experience of removing my seats was...i pushed the seats forward to give me access to the bolts at the rear of the sliders, i Then began turning the first drivers seat retaining bolt until it snapped! My previous owner or his restorer had used bolts that did not Properly fit the captive thread in the floor pan, and so the bolt holding the runner in place had a nut underneath the car. So worth checking U don't have this too first. Of course on the other runner and the other side of my car I removed the 3 remaining nuts from underneath the car ( i needed extra Pair of hands from the wife inside the car) before then undoing the bolts from inside the car. A gentle tug backwards on the seat and the seat comes away from the front 2 mushroom retainers and lifts out easily. I too had to do a home refurb on my recliners, i was missing On each seat one of the 2 small Torsion springs on the Recliner lock and my car being a series 1.5 did not have the 4 Large recliner Seat back return Torsion springs fitted, aka series 2 seats. All this plus a few ££ on springs and lots of cleaning and oiling of the runners made a big improvement.

Thanks David - I got the seat out last night and it came out fairly easily (apart from the fact that someone had put nyloc nuts under the floor pan). It was exactly as advised by Richard, undid the rears and slid the front out. I didn't have an assistant but luckily I have long arms so managed it on my own - at a stretch. Next job is the recliner mechanism!
