#1 Propshaft/Gearbox Decoupling

Post by JC » Mon Mar 30, 2020 4:52 pm

As I near a point where I can lift off the body off my engine, I've a couple of queries

Firstly, looking at the photo - they are separated, but the bolts will not come out? So will the bolts snag when the body is lifted? Also, have the bolts been inserted the wrong way around?

Secondly, because of COVI19, I'm currently short of my friend who is helping me. Would I be sensible to await of a relaxation of restrictions before lifting the body off, or is it a one-man job

Cheers

JC (can you put your name and car details in the auto-signature strip so we know who we're talking to?)
Those bolts are in the correct way - I asked the same question when I was dismantling line and learned that they won't come out unless you remove the gearbox flange.
You don't say how you plan to lift the body, or what equipment you have to assist you. If in doubt, safety first...I didn't lift mine off, I uncoupled the frames and rolled the engine out forwards on a trolley without lifting the shell at all. It was very easy and completely safe.

Hi John...the propshaft has a sliding joint so should push back a bit.......Yes its very possible to do this single handed....but if your not completely confident in what your doing then you really need assistance....especially if you havent got everything completely supported and something goes wrong.....Steve

The bolts won't come out. That's OK.
