Any Young E-type Drivers??
#1 Any Young E-type Drivers??
Hi everyone, im new to the forum, hoping to get the e-type going for this summer, My father has kept it locked away in a garage for the past 10 years however, now im 21 and managed to get insurance, It is my plan to fix it up and get it back on the road! I was just wondering if there are any relatively young drivers about? Cheers, James!

Yes me.....I'm only 47.
I thought that was young for a Jaguar owner where the average owner is normally 104. :?
Sorry....no offence you other olduns.
My son will be as soon as I can get him insured....he's only 17.

All i can say is he will be a very lucky 17 year old! :D When i was 17 I called numerous insurance companies all in vein, only to be repeatedly told their minimum age on a classic car policy was 21, perhaps you will have more contacts and better luck than I did!

In truth I haven't tried yet but he's insured in his Alfa Brera which is a 2.2 and as far as classics go he has insurance in his 1960 split screen pick up and a Datsun 240Z.
He's a lucky boy for sure as you are at 21.
I remember trying desperately at 17 to get my dads S3 going when he was away.

Welcome James !
You will enjoy driving the E for sure !
You've been waiting for it and you want it, so you will never forget the first time !
My son Pierre drove my E-Type for the first time when he was almost 19 years old (he had his driving license for one year) and 1 month later we drove the E together to attend the XK60 event at Goodwood in August 2008 . He drove the car when we were in Belgium and I drove in the UK. He enjoyed it very much and still does when he can (I 'll be honest to say I am always with him as passenger 8) )
I wish you can have the car soon on the road and enjoy it !
Cheers

As its a sunny saturday il be wheeling the car out of the garage, trying to determine what will be needed to get it going, no doubt not being on the road for over 10 years certainly can't of done anygood for the car. I can see this is a very friendly forum and I certainly will be posting and asking many questions as to getting her going again, I am no mechanic but plan on doing most of the work myself! Cheers, James.

Hi James,
welcome from me too. I am 44 years and probably forever young. My dad finally stopped asking when I would grow up when I was in my thirties : )
Have fun, it is a great group here.
cheers

I bought my first e-type when I was 21 and the next doors girlfriend who was 32 would come over and talk suggestively whilst caressing the bonnet.
For some reason that has stopped happening to me now.

Hi there James,
Greetings from the land of Oz (Down Under....) don't know much about youngest E-Type drivers, but have laid claim elsewhere on this forum to being one of the youngest owners. I bought my new E-Type FHC Series 2 in November 1969, at the Scottish Motor Show, at the tender age of 24. The purchase was facilitated by 2 years in Africa as a junior engineer straight out of uni (in the daytime....) and driving a Fender Precision (bass guitar...) in the evenings, for the local expatriate clubs. It was Powder Blue, with tinted glass and chrome wire wheels. It was the absolute culmination of everything I wanted in a car, since seeing the first ones in 1961, at high school. Nothing else mattered in life.........I took it back to Africa (Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.....) and sold it there. I have regretted it ever since......
Coincidentally, what caught my eye with your post was the JamesK bit, my eldest son (born in Zimbabwe....) is also James K (for Kenneth...) He lives in Suffolk in UK, but hopefully will come to live Down Under in the near future.......
All the best,
Norman, Perth, Western Australia.

Hello James,
Welcome. I am no mechanic either but if you need some help from a local (St Johns Wood), feel free to shout (or PM me ;-)
All,
Looks like there are plenty of us 30 somethings driving E-types too. For the record if somebody does a Forum average age, I'm 37.
Best.

#20 Re: Any Young E-type Drivers??
My two sons drove the Series 3 OTS auto when they were about 23/21 and the current S2 OTS when they were about 26/24. They've also driven both D-types. I've been toying with the idea of leaving them each an E-type instead of money, and my daughter too, on the basis that I can have more fun with their inheritance that way before I pop my clogs :-)Jamesk wrote:Hi everyone, im new to the forum, hoping to get the e-type going for this summer, My father has kept it locked away in a garage for the past 10 years however, now im 21 and managed to get insurance, It is my plan to fix it up and get it back on the road!
