This may be a silly question , but here goes anyway ...when removing and re-fitting the spinners , is is better to jack the car up first to take the weight off the wheels ? :salute:

Loosen with the wheels firmly on the ground or you’ll not undo the spinners. Then you can continue with the wheels off the ground if you wish. Do up the spinners with wheels off the ground but tighten with wheels on the ground.

OK thanks , that`s what I thought until recently , but , I just took the front wheels off for cleaning and , when re-fitting the spinners , found that they would tighten by hand , but then would not tighten much ( only c. 10 * ) with the hammer ( wheels on the ground ) . After jacking up the front , the spinners would tighten more with the hammer , ie . another 1/4 turn ( 90 * ).So not sure what is going on there :scratchheadyellow:

Hi Mark.....with car jacked up put your wheel on and tighten the spinners...give them a good couple of whacks with the hammer so they are tight...the wheels will move around as you whack......drop the car on the ground then another couple of good whacks..........are your wheels actually loose on the hubs after youve tightened....if so could be down to repro spinners that have been known to cause problems in tightening the wheel to the hub...Steve

Er….. no. I hope you don’t mind me saying this but that is, in my experience, hogwash.

I jack the wheel fully off the ground before hitting the spinner. All that is needed is gentle pressure from my shin against the tyre to prevent the wheel from turning. Try it before you scoff.

I use one of the spinner tools from Lionel with a Tommy bar, hence my comments. I don’t use a mallet.

I always use a mallet on various Jag spinners.....some times the spinners seems almost impossible to loosen....and the wheel needs chocking to stop it moveing.....its no big deal but definatly not "hogwash".....Steve
