Hi All, just joined. Own a 1962 S1 3.8L FHC numbers matching in Carmine Red. Car is fully restored (took 3 years), recently upgraded to a 5 speed gearbox (still got the original Moss box), converted to negative earth & alternator, front brakes to 4 pot callipers with vented discs (Foseway) and a couple of side mirrors (the ones that attach to the window frame). Now the car drives and stops like a dream bar the heavy steering on slow manoeuvres......

Hi and welcome.
The car looks splendid - did you do the work yourself?
I included similar upgrades as you when I restored mine, plus a few others. In terms of low speed heavy steering, are you running wider wheels and/or tyres? I shifted back from 205 profile tyres to 5” wheels with 185/70 and that improved things noticeably.
Be great to see some more pics.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the compliments. The car is yet to have a full paint correction, buffing out some minor scratches, a polish and finally ceramic coating.

As to the work carried out, most was commissioned but some work was carried out by myself. The car needed a brand new bonnet from Jaguar classic as the original was welded together and too far gone.

I think the tyres are 205’s, will check.

That is how she was when I bought her.

Just one thing about your earlier post where you mentioned ceramic coating: if you've not had this done before, maybe think carefully first. I paid a lot for ceramic coating on my F Type. It's ok, but the finish isn't as good as the one I get on the E Type using a few layers of Carnauba wax. I use bullet wax, dead easy to apply and rub off. The ceramic on the F type almost has a "sticky" feel (certainly not as glossy as the E), and attracts dust. Wish I'd just had the paint correction on the F (it needed it) and stuck with the wax.

Not done yet booked in for April. My car is painted with a one part paint i.e no clear coat layer....would that make a difference as far as ceramic coating?

Welcome Danny,
While I’m a fan of ceramic coating on my modern vehicles, and costly to boot for the best, I also like taking the time to polish and wax my coupe and knowing it’s all my own work. You can’t beat it on a sunny day
