I think ( although others may have different views ) that you will do best by selling parts individually. The engine and box are probably worth £ 2500 ; carbs and manifold £ 1500 ; rear end ie suspension and final drive say £ 1000 ; steering wheel , seats , instruments, interior fittings perhaps £1,500 altogether. Or you could try for a complete sale with a reserve at say £6,500 and see what happens, although personally I think you will be lucky to sell it as a complete entity

PS the glass is worth something if in good order, as is the tailgate

Do you have written proof of ownership....do you have a regestration document/log book.....get yourself a Heritage certificate in your name....it will all add to the value.......if you have all this then sell the car complete as an identifiable car is worth more than its parts......either put it on ebay....or if you dont want the hassle then get it into an auction house.....Steve

I am surprised and find it strange that in all the time this thread was running we never got further photos or information from the post author having been left to play a guessing game as to what car it actually is.

Hi

They probably didn't like Christopher's guidance on values, despite it being reasonable. Their expectations were probably too high, which is common among those that don't really know the ins and outs of restoration.

I can't remember seeing it on Ebay.

Regards
Stuart

Stuart - in fairness I only put those figures up today, when the additional photos were posted . The car looks frankly to be in a worse state than I thought originally, hence my view that it would be a tough proposition to sell as a restoration candidate - worth a try if the documents are in order, as Steve has said, but otherwise it looks like a parts car

Do not break this car. I have restored much worse - It looks like a restorable body, is RHD and has most parts with it. If it has the paperwork it is worth the £25K I valued it at earlier.
Everyone has their own opinion obviously.

Hi Christopher, I thought your guidance was reasonable. That said, it would be sad to see a complete car being broken up.

Barrie, £25k, really? Hagerty's guide puts a driver grade S2 FHC at less than £25k. Concours standard under £75k! Even at zero labour charge you'd be hard pushed to restore it for less than the difference.

Hello Stu - find me an MOT'D driving S2 FHC in RHD for £25K - I must have missed the ad for it. The car in question being RHD gives it a 10 grand advantage - and that hasn't been mentioned. As I said in my earlier post the vendor will have to find someone to take it on - that may best be found at auction.

A RHD S2 FHC is quite a rare car for 1970. With a V5 in that condition I would say £15-20k.

Looks like it needs the works. Restoration costs for most people, would exceed the finished value so the demand is really for those wanting a project.

I would not auction it, otherwise you will end up selling it to an 11 year old in Peckham with £12.50 in their piggy-bank.

I would list it on a classified add at £20k, as whoever buys it will probably want to view it first then haggle.

If it has no registration or documents-it is worth less.

Not that much less, as you are fairly close to the breakup value as it is.

Thanks for all your thoughts. At least I know what I think I'm dealing with!
Probably go down the classified ad line.
I know now what we think it is, but I want someone to see it in person so there'll be no argument about what they're buying.
I have the original V5.
Last question.......best place to place the ad?

A recent barnfind sale that may help you to arrive at a valuation, although this one is an earlier series1 from 1965. It sold at £40.5k inc fees.

Thanks to everyone who has posted about the car. It's now posted on handh website, on the online auction. Wouldn't have got there without the forum.
Now I know what it is and we'll see on Wednesday what it's worth.
So thanks again for all the comments.
Cheers!

It reached a final bid of £9,200 . Whether it sold or not is unclear, but it was a good result for the vendor in my view
