#1 67 coupe xke, is a 67 xj6 rear end same??

Post by autoalain » Sun May 15, 2022 4:25 pm

Folks, I can get an xj6 complete rear assembly cheap, is it exaclty the same as my 67 e-type?
I am missing a lot of parts (axle shaft/rotors/ breaks) I do have the hubs and diff from the e-type.
thanks Mike.

You can use the diff but it is not likely to be a Pwr-loc . You can use the calipers and handbrake calipers with some small mods to get the E-type compensator to fit. You can use the hub carriers and hubs (if you don't want wire wheels. Everything else won't fit so cage, drive shafts, lower wishbones are incorrect because of the saloons wider track.

Just to clarify Barrie’s comment about the XJ cage being unsuitable, it is not only the width, but the geometry of the differential mountings are different.
You stated you have a Jaguar differential, but the key component of the E Type differential are the Inner Fulcrum Mounting Brackets which bolt into the base of the differential. This are specific to the E Type to align the Inner Fulcrum shafts to the holes in the narrower E Type cage which set the angle of the differential pinion flange. Hopefully your Jaguar differential has those mounting brackets attached as these are now very expensive parts to obtain.
