#1 Boby work - Rust

Post by coalboy » Sat Apr 30, 2011 1:57 pm

In the market for my first e-type and just viewed a roadster which is through (ie rusted through) on the driver side floor near the sills - does this look like new sills as well? Also what does it cost to repair the floors, and is it in-situ or a strip down?

sorry for all the questions

regards
N

If the floors have gone expect there to be rust just about anywhere. You will need to strip the car down, remove all the paint and inspect thoroughly. If you can't do the job yourself contact Hutson's or CMC who offer body repair services amongst others. Depending on condition a full body job will cost up to ?30k, paint ?10k and if you have gone that far you may as well restore the whole thing. If you do most of the strip down and rebuild yourself (outsourcing things like engine, carbs, gearbox etc) budget on about ?60k. If you hand the whole car over to a restorer budget for ?130k.

Check out the Restoration stories part of the Forum as there are several blogs running which should give you an idea.
