This will be, as more people turn off the tv as I noticed the views on this thread are a bit higher than others
We cant forget I have to ship the flywheel out to CJ in texas to balance the clutch and flywheel .
Has anyone else gone with their shift rod and knob or reverted back to the original chrome with the black shift ball?

Thursday/Friday when the 200 degree heat and locust leave we will drop the engine!
Get ready.
Palate with box drop car down on box
Take off engine mounts
transmission mounts then raise the car up!!!!
Sounds easy?
Anything gets in the way the hack saw comes out :)

As promised…..

The pictures might be a little mixed up but the steps took less than 1/2 hour!
The palet was placed under the car, then the car lowered till the engine rested on the wood.
Then the front engine brakets removed.
Then support the transmission and take out the 5 mount plate bolts.
Lastly the firewall mount screw loosened , then raise the car and your all done!
Next removing the transmission and pulling the fly wheel
Enjoy!

Agree with changing to a 3:07 rear differential.
The car became completely different, before with the stock 3:51’s on my 1969 S2 1 st gear was too short.
With the 3:07’s the car became a pleasure in all 4 gears. Both up shifting and downshifting.
I can imagine what a 5 speed will do goin tease its range.
Regards

Well I had bone stock U.S. 3:54 gears and 4 speed with twin stranglebergs in the late 80”s early 90”s.
Then my hot rod DRIVING friends in the group suggested a 307 , then triples , then electronic ignition then 6 inch wheels and now 30 plus years later they are still fun to drive!
It’s truly the only 60s car that if tweaked can really keep up!
The engine, suspension and proportions are a masterpiece
It just needs updating to the next level.
I’ve had 5 speeds before in my Etypes once with a 5 speed and a 288 rear!
I was at 90 at 2,000 rpm but a little too low even for me
So today I post hopefully taking the old transmission off and measuring the different box sizes
The Guy Broad is a good 3 inches longer!

Okay
I strapped the engine down so it would not rock or tilt while removing the transmission.
I removed the 2 bolts and the spacer plate on the starter .
I then put a support jack under the transmission taking all the bell housing bolts out except 2
Slowly wedging the bell housing away from the engine block
With another set of hands we pulled the trans back and out!
Next came the flywheel and clutch assembly.
Once that was removed the bell housing had to be taken off to be used with the guy broad box.
DO NOT FORGET. I then replaced the drive shaft with the new at least 3 inch shorter shaft as the tail of the trans is at least 3 inches longer!!!
Help needed before Mondays call to a guy Broad
When I use the old bell housing
Do we need the paper gasket?
Do we use the same shaft seal?
Finally the missing bolt behind the fork
Do we thread a bolt?
I’m
Just not sure……
Another note
The clutch fork is held in with an Allen key threaded stud
To get to the last bolt you need to remove it
Just remove the Allen key stud and lock washer and nut and tap shaft through the fork .
Hope this makes sense
Lastly the old clutch , flywheel and pressure plate are off the CJ dor balance with the new clutch and transmission
Thoughts?

I am sure the the chaps at Guy Broad would be happy to assist you answering all your questions. I dealt with them on a few occasions and I must say they have been most helpful. The five speed box works a treat you can do 70mph in fifth at around 2000rpm very comfortably and even then you wont be losing any of the pull the E is so good at.

Yes but that was years ago my friend and the box has been a bit modified and upgraded on some points.
Plus you will get all the guys there yelling at you that
Points and the terrible MOSS box are better.
I moved into the 20th century

Moving on to the new box…
Before my call on Monday…….
The studs are covered for protection while shipping.
1. The eight hole is tapped did anyone put a bolt
Or blank for fork range?
2. I hope the bell housing just bolts on with no gasket
3 Going with Bob Beeres clutch bleed kit

4. Using same pilot bushing
Yes Broad and CJ have been very helpful
I was just wondering before Mondays phone calls

As i mentioned re info on Jag lovers.......some have just moved the engine forward slightly and no cutting was required. ....but think it may be a car by car decision as they are not all exactly the same......Steve
