Preparing body for paint, doors

Hi, of course things have to be understood and fixed before sending to the painter. Working on panel gaps etc on the left door, I have three questions:

1. The left door had no stop, which had of course resulted in a ding in the body. It looks like I could just screw or weld a bolt in the holes, invisible when installed, or what's the better solution?


2. How does the adjustment of the bracket inside the door work? There are 4 pointy bolts with plenty of movement, but there's also two screws making moving it impossible. Did the factory insert the screws after aligning to keep it there, so I should just leave them out? Or?

3. I've read about that it is important to glue rubber to a-post before installing door. But my a-post seems to have a bracket riveted to the vertical part, haven't seen that in the books. Normal? And about that, all the rubber "channels" riveted around the side windows, is it recommended to leave them on for paint, or drilled out and get new ones?

Hi - I'm not quite sure what you're asking in the first of your questions given your photo is showing your original doorstrap with its Brass Cam. Re your second question, yes, the two small holes are locator holes. The Factory would align the door and would then drill and fix the two small screws so that any subsequent removal/refit could go back exactly where the door was previously

In answer to your questions.......

1. You could just use a nut and bolt or a suitable piece of rod and weld it at either end like the factory did. More importantly though is you need to fit a suitable piece of loose tubing over it to allow the stop to roll over.

2. The two small holes were drilled (at the factory??) once the doors were correctly aligned. That way, if the doors were ever removed, they could be refitted in exactly the same place. Consequently, they are now useless.

3. The B-post riveted brackets are correct. Those and the other riveted brackets around the quarter windows need to be fitted and then painted with the rest of the car.

BTW, can I ask the colour of the bonnet in your picture? Gunmetal or?

Opalescent Silver Grey, a bit lighter than Gunmetal. Although in actual fact it is a modern version of Silver Grey called Lunar Grey which is a bit more metallic than original.

I’m currently having an OTS painted in another modern version of Silver Grey called Rhodium Silver which is a bit lighter in shade than Lunar Grey, but again, more metallic than the original.

This will be my third silver etype in a row! A medical condition??
