how to remove horn cap on column??

67 fhc, I have tried with 2 screw drivers to pry off the horn button, no go afraid to brake,
is this how it comes off steering wheel??? and I have many wires that exit colum, none of then
are purple.black, there are two wires with material on them, faded colors, could that be the wire that
goes to relay, thanks Mike.

There are 3 grub screws on the hub that hold it in.

The horn power wire attaches about halfway down the column.

Use a small, flat bladed screwdriver but watch you don’t drop them!

Folks, the reply I got says the horn wire exits have way down the column, I do not have this, but
I do have a set of wires ,all in a black rubber cover, that exit the column, would this pink/black wire be in
this group??? why would they put it alone and not into black cover?? I did put an ohmn meter on ALL
wires that exit this cover and when I push button none of them show connection. as I said before there
is 2 COVERED material wires with No color (faded) could one of these wires be the horn wire?
and yes I do have the wire diagram on the basket case car. Thanks Mike.

Mike, if it’s like my 65 S1, the centre horn push button presses down on the rod which, in turn, is in contact with Purple/black wire via the brass contact ring in the steering column. The overall column is grounded. Purple and black single bullet locates on copper spring/blade as pictured, and comes from horn relay looking at wiring diagram. More here;

Thanks Steve, GREAT help, removed my cap and found out why horn is not working, NO rod in the
column, no spring or bushings, the bugger that sold me the parts removed all the guts.
and of course my distributor in Canada does not sell those parts, so off to EBAY I guess,
very much appreciated you taking the time to show me exactly where the contact is, I do have
that part but did not know what is was. Mike.

For the ‘67 FHC, the horn cap is usually held on by clips or screws that can be tricky. Instead of prying too hard, try gently working around the edges with a plastic trim tool to avoid damage. Sometimes the cap can be stuck due to old adhesive or grime, so a bit of patience helps.

As for the wires, it sounds like you might be dealing with some old insulation. If you can, trace the wires to see where they connect—sometimes faded colors can be misleading. The wire going to the relay might be one of the thicker, more insulated ones, but check your wiring diagram for a clearer picture.
