#1 Courtesy light drama

Post by dlgis » Wed Aug 14, 2024 3:34 pm

One of my courtesy light switches has broken in two and the wiring has dropped into the bodywork  What’s the best way to get at the wiring to poke it back out the courtesy switch hole? Bearing in mind I'd like to minimise disruption to my lovely new interior trim 🫤

Thanks all
Darryl

You could try putting a bend in a piece of thin stiff wire and wiggle it around inside the hole hopefully you can catch the switch wiring in the hook and pull it back through

Same thing happened to me, managed to fish it out with a piece of wire with a hook bend on the end.

No workshop should be without one of these:

Along with the above advise, I can recommend one of the very cheap endoscope camera attachments for use with a phone. Whilst the quality is not great, it would be good enough to see if your fishing technique is at all close to the prize. These start at around 8GBP on Ebay and on other sites. A myriad of uses around the home.

Thanks John I've invested in one of those essential tools 👍 and Richard a camera is a good plan, unfortunately mine broke a couple of months ago so I’ll order up another 😊 and try further exploration with some bent wire in the meantime :fingerscrossed:

Can we approach you for some private medical work following a successful wire retrieval?

Can anyone volunteer some experience with these cameras, purchase links or WHY ?

Happy to pay proper money for a 10 year lifespan if it’s possible to avoid effing TEMU.

I have the flexible claw, phew, I thought I was obsolete.

Turns out I still am.

I've bought one off EBay, predominately chosen by price.

It works well and does what I need.

I managed to get the cable out the hole with some garden wire, and fitted a new courtesy switch, but the light stays on all the time so I haven’t resolved my problem yet

My endoscope camera is a Depstech - from Amazon - there’s an app for viewing the image on ipads etc.

The plunger on the switch is probably too short. Check that you have the correct switch and the double thickness striker plate on the door.

Stuart
