Hello!
#1 Hello!
Hi all,
Just bought a Series 2 OTS in regency red - not my colour of choice, but given my budget and the fact that I particularly wanted a S2...
Anyway, the car's great, just a few little bits to tidy up. A couple of questions:
How much should I expect to pay for a good quality re-spray. There are some small blemishes in the paint, but they're spread around the body work a bit so I think this is the only option. Also any recommendations in the South West? There shouldn't be any metal work to do, and I'll keep to the original colour.
Any help or info would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Kes

Hi Kes and welcome. The S2 is definately one of the best sorted out E Types in standard form. Good choice. Re paintwork. I can't help with a painter in the SW but would say that a bare metal respray without any panel work would be in the region of 8-10k. Based on that, I would think 4-5k should get you a pretty good job (the materials are really expensive now). If you are prepared to strip the chrome etc that will bring the price down but be very careful that the blemishes aren't hiding any rot.Kes wrote:Hi all,

Hi Kes and welcome.
I had my S3 OTS bare metal painted about 5 years ago, and it was ?8K all up. That was an 'external' paint only, with the engine bay (bulkhead and frames) retaining its original paint, although the bonnet was painted underneath. You would have to add ?2000 plus to get those painted as well....a lot of work removing the engine and all the bits and pieces.
Included in that cost was replacement of windscreen rubbers, re-chroming of bumpers, replacement of bumper trim...that sort of stuff. I didn't have the hood replaced as it was the original one, but I should have. New paint makes anything that isn't to the same standard just look awful !!
I can't help you on a west country painter I'm afraid, as mine was done near Nottingham by Alan Proctor, a well known Jag man.
If you're convinced that your car won't need bodywork done, then any good painter / bodyshop will be able to do it. But go for one that specialises in classic car restoration rather than accident repairs...at least they will be able to turn their hand to bodywork if need be.
Good luck!

Looks like we have another imposter. Glenn wants to hide under California life insurance.
And there it was gone?

Can't help feeling I've seen this guy before. If he wasn't a fraud then he looks like one now hiding under an insurance advert.
