Oil pressure sender thread size
#1 Oil pressure sender thread size
Good evening chaps. I am trying to establish the thread size of the oil pressure sender unit as I have purchased a 100 psi gauge which comes with a new confangled sender which has a 1/8 NPT thread. Therefore I will need to find an adaptor to connect the new sender to the block. I have a theory on the thread, but I am interested to see what others can tell me. thanks in advance.

Doesn't look like you want to follow the example of how to connect though.
That shows a BSPT (tapered pipe thread) adapter going into the filter body that has a BSPP Parallel thread.
Good reference for thread sizes.

Thank you chaps. On the case this morning. I actually have Car Builder Solutions near me and they list some adapters.

Hi Layne
It's acceptable and common practice to use a tapered BSP male thread in a parallel female thread. Sealing isn't an issue. However, it is not acceptable to fit a parallel male thread into a tapered female thread.

Well, it works to seal, and I know it is commonly done for convenience sake but I'd rather use the proper adapter to go from BSPP to whatever rather than cram a pipe thread into a straight thread that would normally take a sealing washer.
The adapters are commonly available on Ebay, Amazon, or at your local Hydraulic shop as they are used throughout the heavy equipment industry.
