#1 S2 2+2 door drain and skin interaction

Post by Rich70 » Wed Aug 27, 2025 6:14 pm

Hello all.

For the series 2 2+2 door - My doors were pretty shot and I have no references for how the door lower drain and door skins come together.

I’m not sure if I notch the skin to go around the drain point.

Could someone provide me with a photo for the original layout?

Rich, assuming they are pretty much the same as for a SWB car then why not surf through a few of Chuck’s blogs here https://www.monocoque-metalworks.com/ma ... -to-doors/

The doors are longer but I can’t see why they shouldn’t be similarly made.

You could also talk to Andy Raynor at Hutsons https://www.hutsonmoco.co.uk/
He will be able to supply you with properly made skins, whether for the whole door or just the lower few inches, whatever you need. He’s a great man for helping out.

Hi Geoff

The repair panels I have are from Chuck

You can see the drain is formed on the same edge that the skin will be formed around. Im just not sure if I have to notch the door skin or if there is another way.

The non 2+2 cars have different drains - they’re a separate item that sits on the frame/skin.

I’ll drop Chuck an email but I’m hoping someone will have a door in original condition that they could quickly take a snap of.

Hutson’s unfortunately don’t do much to support the unique 2+2 parts.
