#1 1965 4.2 LHD FHC Wiring Harness Questions

Post by richard btype » Sun Feb 15, 2026 1:15 pm

In searching previous posts on the harness - came across some no longer available images from Christopher Storey and read a post i.e.sorry to note he is no longer with us - he kindly gave me advice and was very helpful...

I'm just starting to fit up the wiring harness and don't want to go too far if I've got it wrong. Before removing the old harness I took many images but now discovering 'not enough' and that some colours on the old one have faded beyond recognition. Also that however my car was previously wired up (and nothing to suggest it's not original) some of the data doesn't chime with the wiring diagram. Have to say I'm surprised that the new harnesses don't have position labels attached - would make life a lot easier...

1) Have I got these two the right way round?
Image

2) Does the harness travel below the central frame and not through the large side apertures?
Image

3) Is the harness correctly positioned between the two hanging tabs? The tabs have been painted - can they be purchased new?
Image

4) Do the left side fuse wires appear correct?
Image

5) Do the right side fuse wires appear correct?
Image[/u

6) Anything not right here?

Being near the same step on my own OTS, I'll be interested in the answers
May I add one question? Is it worth protecting all female terminals with heat shrink tubing (plus some 10 mm around the wire itself)?
Thank you for your advice.

Phillippe

I discovered that the wiring loom that I'm fitting (purchased through SNG Barrat) was manufactured by Autosparks Ltd and they suggested I contact them with any queries - which I have. I asked why they hadn't marked the ends and it's simply down to cost.

However the contact there was very helpful and gave me the email address: help@autosparks.co.uk he would respond to any accompanying images asap to help answer any questions. I guess the routing of the harnesses is a different matter....

You might find it useful to look through some of the restoration topics. A long trawl could give you photos of cable routing to answer your questions.
Many of those who have previously done this work don’t appear on the forum very often so won’t see your questions to answer them.

Hi,
The following pictures might be of help. The harness is very probably original. The metal tabs are body color with a black sleeve. I think a PVC or a heatshrink tube will do.

Greetings
Daniel

Just to add one little tidbit, for the red wire that is used for the windscreen wiper park assembly, there should be a grommet located to the right of the #4 fuse. In my photo it shows that grommet disintegrated and eventually I replaced with new.

Also, on the other side of the bulkhead, there is a clip to hold that red park wire out of the way of the wiper mechanism as seen in my photo thru the use of a mirror.

It’s very important to keep that red wire out of the way as I found out the hard way.

Thank you Daniel some very helpful images there. (Not just the harness)... Have taken your tip with the heat shrink - works well.
