Well I have the nearside exhaust manifolds to replace (cracked).
I can see it is very tight!! So I was wondering the best way to change them............I feel sure Im not the only one to face this challenge. I have it half stripped and ready to go

Dear Dave,
This can be done in situ, but you'll small fingers and will have to completely strip the top from that side of the car.
If you can remove the studs with their nuts still attached*, rather than just the nuts, then all the beter. Because one (maybe two) of the studs will be captive (the exhaust manifold itself stops you removing the two together) they'll need to be turned out 1/6 of of a turn at a time, going from nut to nut, or stud to stud.
If they do not want to move, penetrating oil and a blow torch will help. They'll maybe take up to seven days of coaxing, but will eventually turn.
A stud extractor will work on broken studs once the manifold is off.

Thanks for that Marek . Luckily When the engine rebuild was done all the studs were replaced so there is
no corrosion just nice clean threads.....................but still a pig to get to.
I have been told You can just loosen the engine mount jack the engine up
and the manifolds will just fall out???
I think not......... but is the bank holiday job for Me

You MAY find that you need to replace them in pairs if yours are original. The newer (SNGB) castings are thicker than the original ones and the difference may mean that when they bolt up against eachother, they may be under a bit of tension. After a few heat cycles, the other old manifold can simply crack for no good reason.
It also means there will be less space when refitting. On the plus side, you'll do it half of the time, second time around.

Well I have to say it was not as hard as I expected.
Thanks to the engine builder fitting all new nuts and studs.
Was quiet straight forward. I fitted both manifolds while I was
there, it seemed only right
