Aluminium radiators....
#1 Aluminium radiators....
Hi Guys,
I`m thinking of putting an ally rad into my 3.8 FHC, has anyone got any experience of where`s the best place to buy one, i`ve been on to a few of the sites looking at them and the price differs quite a lot, maybe one of you guys has bought one recently ?
Appreciate your help in advance

I recently needed a new radiator for my Mark 2, and discussed the idea of an al2 rad with the repairer, who was very much against them , saying that the real problem is that the slightest damage to a tube means that the whole radiator is scrap, because unlike brass/copper cores, nothing can be repaired

Hi Chris,
I also heard that, allthough i do have one in my XK 120 and have`nt had any problems, touch wood, i spose it needs to be treated with kid gloves, as with most of the bits on these old cars we own.

I have had an ali Coolcat early series 1 replica rad for 7 years on my car and have to report no problems what so ever.
The car never runs hot, it does have a Coolcat fan as well.
Mike used the dimensions and photos from my original one to model his on.
Rob Beere also makes them to order.

Cambridge Motor Sports also do some superb radiators and headers - works of art!

Mine (rad, curved header & Kenlowe) have lasted for 13 years and 40,000 miles; the gauge rarely moves from 70c even with ambient temps of 40c+.

Pity their V12 radiator picture is a Series 2.
But yes, they make nice stuff. They have a set of bottle brackets of mine as the pattern for new parts. Which reminds me I must collect them when I go over that way next week!

Hi,
Northampton Rads do a good unit - My V12 version is very nice and I am very happy - reasonable price too.
www.nargroup.com/
Bought form them before leaving UK and it holds up to the Aussie temperatures very well.
Regards,
Simon

Agree. Rob Goodwin, Adrian etc. are nice people and do good quality stuff. They have hopefully finished my D-type water rad to original drawings by now and a quote for a D-type oil rad. Recommended.

I've a rad supplied by NAR and clumsily damaged it during an engine out job. Took it back to NAR and they repaired cheaply. I was interested to find that the core was indeed aluminium . They seemed to solder busted core easily enough.
