#1 Horn issue

Post by Mad River » Thu Jul 12, 2012 3:04 am

Howdy gents! Another question about our Jag. When we picked it up on Monday, the horn was working fine. Now the horn is silent. The relay appears to be working, since I can hear it click whenever I push the horn button. Any wisdom would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Poor connection ?

I fixed the light in my dials and they work fine during the day. At night they seem to go on strike

Clean all connections and use contact grease is a good start

Exactly the same happened to me the other day. If you are getting the relay clicking then it should be simple. Pull off the connecting plug that takes the wires into the electrical units held in the bonnet and either clean the contacts or simply jiggle them around. If that fails then see if you have any bullet connectors between the horns and the plug and do the same.

There is also a fuse for the horn 50 amp from memory. The relay will still operate with a blown fuse so I would check that first.

Thanks! Looks like a job for my emory board and/or box of fuses.

This has been interesting. First time we've purchased a concours car, but it seems to suffer from many of the same challenges as our drivers! Nature of the beast, I guess. Connections get dirty, Lucas gremlins come a'creeping, etc.
