Thanks for the rather more positive comments.

Perhaps I have given the wrong impression here....I have no intention whatsoever of ever setting one of the Jags tyres on a race circuit!! I already have three cars that were built for that!!

As someone has said, I hope to be pleasantly surprised by the car, Ive no intention of it being used for anything other than a summers day cruiser, so it may be well up to that as it is. I may have to fit a wind deflector of some sorts to prevent my wifes long locks blowing about :)

Hi Hazy,

I didn't join in earlier, but welcome to the world of S3 ownership. I started loving E-types many, many years ago and like many others was initially a fan of the sixes. I bought a V12 because it was affordable (the car was a wreck - no need for an inspection; everything needed attention, hence the price. My choice was to build the car myself and I am confident an inspection would throw up more problems since then. However, I love the car now and would be reluctant to change to a six cylinder - one of my favourite comments on here was that the sixes have a quality mono soundtrack, whilst the V12s have Dolby Stereo! :D

Anyway, glad all the issues appear to have been resolved and all are friends, you have a wonderful car, which should be appreciated for what it is. A standard V12 has acceleration which these days is not that different to a VW Golf GTi or similar and they probably have better handling as standard, so if you want performance and handling there are cheaper, more practical and economical ways of doing it. But at the end of the day, you have an E-type and I know which I prefer and which the general public prefers when they come to look at it! The majority of people do not distinguish between E-type models either and although there are some who prefer the earlier styling, I meet many who like the grown up version of the car, which is in many ways more pleasing to modern perceptions of how a car should look.

I hope you enjoy the car, if you enjoy it a quarter as much as I do, you will love it!

Regards,

Simon

Thanks Simon

Im not going to be very popular saying this but I chose the V12 over a series 1 or 2, I like the flared arches and the front grill of the S3, and of course its a V12, whats not to like there!

I must admit I do like the rear end of the S1 better with the inset number plate and lights on top of the bumper.

You won't raise any feathers with a statement like that on this forum. I think that we all love all three series with their various presentations. You will get an argument as to which is the best/most beautiful/purest, etc. and if you check on which model the proponent owns, you will undoubtedly find that it's the one whose case he is advocating for. I think that E Types are like beautiful women. One person will be spell bound by a model that another thinks is rather plain, one will be swayed by her inner beauty (Series 2 anyone?) another by perceived mechanical superiority. It's all a matter of personal taste. I am thankful that not everyone recognizes that the Series 1 OTS is the best, most beautiful and most desirable of the lot, otherwise I might never have had mine come available when I bought it.

Eloquently and gracefully put Mark - I couldn't agree more! I had a gutful of people telling me I had the "vulgar version" of the E-type (or words to that effect) and people who don't know tht is "supposed" to be the case just see an E-type and say it is beautiful. Sometimes these days, younger people don't know what my car is, but they still say it is beautiful! :D

Hazy, I sympathise with you, having left the cold and snow behind. Good luck with the weather, but take it easy when you pick her up - rear wheel drive, lots of power and ice/snow don't mix that well, to say nothing of the salt you will be lovingly pressure washing into every crack and crevice. Let us know how you get on, looking forward to hearing the good news of your successful delivery!

Simon

No arguement at all. Series 3 roadster in red is definately the best/most beautiful/purest, no contest ;)

There is no way I'll be picking it up for the forseeable future, moreso now the snow is here. However I am well versed in controlling powerful RWD cars in treacherous conditions!
