3.8 exhaust tips

looking thru photos and books cant see if 3.8 mufflers are long pipe short muffler or short muffler long pipe ? by pipe i mean the very last end piece where exit of gases is

3.8= long muffler & short outlet. 4.2 vice versa.

I just have one more question re this subject . In Phillip Porters book
"collectors Originality guide Jaguar Etype" it notes that in Oct 63 "modified twin pipe silecer(C21714) and rubber mountings > Since My car was made in Nov of 63 should i actually have 4.2 exhaust tips? long pipe short silencer vs other way round ??

My ,63 Fhc is chassis no 888806 and was made on June 7th. Yours seems to be older which might make the previous information beyond doubt.

I have a heritage certificate stating my build date .
what are you stating is beyond doubt?

If your car is older than mine, and mine was built on 7/6/63 as stated on my heritage certificate then yours like mine is a pure run of the mill 3.8 and is nowhere near the changeover to 4.2 or series 11/2. Just my veiw.

Gary : I think you will find that your car was built in November 1962 and not November 1963. If your certificate states 1963 then I am afraid it is a typo. Thus it is nowhere near the end of 3.8 production

i checked my certificate and you are correct . Built NOV 62 !

so which resonators then would be the best in terms of correctness, sound and lasting quality ?
are they supposed to be painted black at the end that meets the tailpipes near rear suspension area

All resonators were originally chrome plated mild steel which is why, today, it is very difficult to find new ones - no one wants to bother doing the chroming. It makes the vendors life a lot easier to push stainless steel because they can simply polish that. Mild steel resonators sound a lot nicer than the s/s ones and PD Gough will make you up a set. Then down to you to get them chrome plated but very worthwhile doing because the sound when you put your foot down is .....................

You can buy chromed resonators in the US from eBay.

Yes mild steel - you can't chrome stainless steel as far as I am aware (or if you can it would be pretty pointless!). Only wish someone over in Europe would offer a similar product. As I said, PD Gough will make them but you will have to get them chromed I guess. For the money those Couper ones look to be ideal if they will ship to your location.

I am in canada so i will conact couper ! why not have them ship to UK cant be that crazy for shipping costs ? I buy stuff from UK constantly for cars and to canada its almost the same as from USA .

thanks again for your tips!!! I have an espada and took time to find an original set of Ansa packs for the back for the same noise reasons but for got about that til you mentioned it so much appreciated .

just called coupers and they no longer carry these in chrome over mild steel ... I will search others and report back
