#1 Door lock replacement

Post by abowie » Sun Jan 20, 2013 5:13 am

Don't lock your car. I pulled the key out of the passenger side lock on my 1.5 FHC and the barrel came out with it :-(

So what do I do now? Can you buy them?

Andrew,

Replacement lock barrels had been out of stock and on back order for ages. However a friend was also looking for a new lock only last week and I believe SNG Barratt have just recently obtained some stock.

So worth giving Alex at SNG a call on 01746 765432, part number is SBS9085FHC at ?45 + VAT (set of matching lock barrels)

Chris

ps a while back I sent an email via your website re glovebox fitting - did you receive it?

My original door locks were broken too so I ordered a pair from SNG and initially they sent me the wrong ones and I received the later version where the lock is in the door panel and not the door handle. SNG exchanged them with no issues.

Looking at them the barrels were different so they wont go into the door handle. I recommend that you call SNG when you make the order to ensure you get the right ones to save being frustrated

Absolute worst case - SNG also sell the complete door handle which includes the lock. But naturally this is a fairly expensive solution.

Is there a way to fix a barrel, by re-welding it as it previously was? Cause I have the same problem, but the break / failure is neater, so more easy to re-weld.

I think the barrels are made from Mazak - a very low quality alloy. You may be able to braze it but I think welding is out of the question
