hi all,
this is a quick message looking for help. my dad has himself an e type which has been his pride and joy for years, being more of a hippyvan man myself i am not very familiar with the ins and outs of the e type. I am trying to find a (retro/vintage) replacement/replica/etc radio for his series 3 V12, 5.3 e type, as it currently has a modern CD player fitted which i know he doesnt like (not for originality purposes just the change of the feel/look of the cab). does anybody have any advice on possible replacements? also, if the car currently has a CD player in it do you think that the console will have been modified for it? (i am away from the car nowadays so cannot double check, i am just looking into buying him a meaningful birthday present)
any contributions gratefully received
cheers
george.

Hi George,
The console probably will have been modified, but new or second hand are available, you may well be able to "unmodify" what you have with some metal plate and black vinyl.
For ideas of a modern, old style radio, which can even have a cd multi changer added, but without, can be used to play from a usb stick or auxiliary input, have a look at this post - my own version appears toward the end:

I bought one of the Woody's new old looking one's that plays USB's.
I loaded a stick full of appropriate 60's music but I've found I hardly ever turn it on.
I have a much better soundtrack coming out the exhaust.
It also has a plain plastic front panel that looks like a blociking panel out of a desktop computer.
I still have an original (??) old non working radio with a stainless panel I may try to get fixed, or maybe upgraded to play MP3's
If your dad's car has a modern CD player, the console will most likely have been cut out to fit a modern DIN sized unit. The older radios had a smaller rectangular hole in the middle and round holes for the dials

Hi,
I purchased a 1973 V12 roadster in 1974 and it had an eight track fitted which was I believe factory fitted or fitted by the dealership for the first owner. I was the second owner and remember enjoying the eight track because it played continually. :D
