Steering Wheel Kits (wood)

Someone used to offer wooden steering wheel kits on ebay. They looked very well done. I haven't seen him there for a while. Does anyone know who it was?

Those kits are for the Coventry Timber Bending Co wheels fitted to the early E-Types and much nicer to hold that the later grooved Moto-lita versions IMHO. Alternative is to buy a good s/h grooved wheel which appear fairly regularly at a reasonable price although you will need the brushed spoke version for an S2. The supplier of the grooved kits seems to be no longer trading

The man who makes them is Nick Reeves - nfreeves@btinternet.com

He does them for both early S1 (Coventry Wood Bending) and later S1/S2 grooved wheels. Certainly for the grooved ones he makes them slightly larger than the originals to make them more rigid.
He used to sell them on eBay at the backend of last year. However recently he had trouble getting a supply of the right wood.

I am on his back order list and awaiting to hear from him. I was last in contact with him in March.

Thanks Guys, it was Nick Reeves at CWC I was looking for. I've ordered a Series II wood kit which should be here next week. Now I need to find a thread on how to restore a steering wheel. Anyone? I went through ChrisC's posts but I think he didn't restore his. Any help is appreciated. Chris

Remove old wood, polish spokes to mirror or satin finish as appropriate. Stick new wood on, sand then varnish.

Have plenty of clamps handy to apply even pressure all round while the epoxy hardens.

I saw a thread somewhere where they used cable ties for clamps.

My light restoration was to the original wood rim as it was in good shape
