Please help How to buy Jag E-type 1968 S1 4.2 ???

Hello,
I have the opportunity to buy a 1968 Jaguar E type, can you advise me what to look for when buying?
The car is in bad shape, I'm buying it for restoration but not for sale.
if you can decode the VIN number? whether it is correct for the car setup?
or is an online store that has new parts for this type of car?

This car is shown on xkedata.com as a primrose yellow FHC . The numbers certainly correspond with those of a S 1.5 coupe. However, the photographs shown of it suggest that is a car that may well be unrestorable . Particularly, the bonnet line slopes upwards towards the front , whereas the body/doorlines slope downwards towards the front, suggesting that the bonnet and engine frames are tearing away from the bulkhead at the bottom. Unless you have seen this car in reality as opposed to photographs, and satisfied yourself that this breakage has not in fact happened, it is not a car I would advise buying

In answer to your second question almost every part is available for the E-Type from www.sngbarratt.com but the costs can escalate very quickly. Try and make sure the car is as complete as possible particularly the engine, gearbox, chrome and interior. I just looked at this car on xkedata.com and, while almost anything is restorable, it's going to take a lot of time, commitment and money just to put the bodywork right. If it's complete mechanically, it might be a good candidate as a donor car for another tub missing these bits, but as a restoration project I'm with Christopher on this one.
