Lee, really hate to contradict you but both S2s I have here have the large I'D plate on the lhs. Unless you definitively otherwise (ie from chassis number on.....)

Hi all .... happy to consider any cars that may be offered, if anyone with a car that pretty much matches my requirements could send me detailed info I would be very grateful as per my advert in the classified section. It may be that for up to ?45k I will never get the car I want but I'm not going to buy a car that really needs restoration as 1) I can't afford it and 2) I don't have the facilities or inclination. I'll take my time, take advice and if I find a nice one I'll be sure to ask for detailed guidance from those that know what they're talking about. This forum has provided much information and offers of help for which I'm very grateful. As for VIN plates for S2s, before I posted that statement earlier, I looked thought Phillip Porters Originality Book, to me it looked like an S2 in the picture had the standard size plate, hence the confusion. Here's hoping a car comes along....

Enjoy the weekend in your E Types, looks like it's going to be a good one.
Kind regards,
dave

Hi all,

Thanks for the updates on the VIN plates... clearly I've a lot to learn but interesting all the same. Lee, I didn't think I'd received any pics, thought I'd check my 'Spam' folder before answering and something has arrived but it was in the Spam folder, will have a look shortly, thank-you. Angus I'll pm you on the car inspection...

Kind regards,
dave

Hi,
Is it possible to look up details of a car based purely on the UK number plate? Had a quick look on the XKE database but I think you have to put a VIN type number not the number plate... regards, dave

Number plate works. Select browse, then go down the bottom, put in Registration Number and "enter" to search.

Just going through unread posts and came across this.
I've recently bought a totally original unrestored one owner Australian delivery 1970 series 2 and the blue car in question could be its twin sister. Small data plate, same tappet covers, and by the looks of a previous post only about a dozen cars separating them
http://www.xkedata.com/cars/detail/?car=1R20826
I would say definitely built as RHD and for the UK market.
There seems to be a batch of about 75 cars built around the same time as the blue one destined for Australia.
Hope you have found the right car for your dream. I have. :D
