Marcus,

Some good info on this site - this is pretty much the info which was on the sites I mentioned before - now no longer available.

as regards your brakes mine do exactly the same, first pump is soft then second pump is solid and stops perfectly, my master cylinder has a slight leak, seen by white sludge at the top of the brake pedal under the dashboard. my mechanic says it 'might' need replacing at some point but not an immediate worry.

The thing is after driving it, i find myself double braking in every car i drive now :)

Same here! Double pump required even after bleeding the brakes.

I have the same double pump issue on the brakes - I don't think it is airin the system as the second push on the pedal is really firm. It feels more like there is vacuum assist on the first push, but not the 2nd.

Does anyone know whether this is a 'feature' or indicates a problem?

Either still air in brake circuit or a leak in the Resevac vacuum circuit.

Steve

Big black lozenge shaped thing sitting below the brake/clutch controls.

Check the pipes are the correct ones (braided cloth cover) and are not collapsing under vacuum.
