#1 Hunting for a Dual fuel pump!

Post by Rafa » Fri Sep 27, 2013 9:06 am

I've had my S3 off the road for 6 weeks waiting for a fuel pump as these have been on back order from SU (Burlens) through SNG/Martin Robey etc. I've just come off the phone to SU and they say there is another 4 weeks before they build anymore...

Anyone know how I can get hold of one? I'm going for the electronic version:

Part number: AZX1405EN Description: Dual HP Fuel Pump Electronic

but at this stage anything that works will suffice!

Many thanks.

Try Hutson's - I was talking to Andy Rayner earlier this week and he said he had just had a delivery from Burlen. No idea if that includes the S3 pump, but worth a try.

David, you hero, thanks!

Andy (who has waited 7 months for his delivery) has got one for me, albeit the electric, not electronic version, but at least the old girl will get a spin again soon!

I wasn't going to say anything, but I felt sure Andy would not have an electronic one. The last one he showed me had been on fire ! I am sure you are better off with the one you have bought

Bit alarmist Christopher, unless you have a sample of more than one. Mine seems to work perfectly unlike the second new submersible pump which is leaking.

Well, it was sufficient to put Andy off supplying the double electronic ones . As you know, he is not someone who likes things to go wrong, particularly spectacularly, which this was . Even the housing had melted

I have mounted this pump from Hardi in my EV12 S3. Volkswagen is using this pump for boat-motors. Should by high quality and very reliable.
Mine is working well since 4 years.

Before fitting a new petrol pump to a Series 3 I would suggest testing the voltage output from the Butec regulator. My Series 3 has just been returned to the road after a long restoration and it burned out the petrol pump after a month ( non electronic type). It turned out that the Butec regulator was passing between 17 to 18 volts, This was also a "new " item purchased during the restoration. I put a secondhand regulator on and the old petrol pump back on and it has run fine since. I have bought another Butec regulator and this is passing 14.15 volts, which has now been fitted and everything is still running ok.
