#1 NEC Classic Motor Show

Post by Kes » Wed Oct 09, 2013 1:53 pm

I usually visit this show but this year I'm having second thoughts!
As well as wanting ?25 a ticket, they also want to fleece you ?1.50 for a 'booking fee' and 10P a minute when you book by 'phone. As my Father used to say "I don't mind being ripped off if I don't know I'm being ripped off!" Anyway, two can play at that game.
Anyone know where I can get a promotional discount code?
Harumpff!
No problem is that great that it can't be run away from.
Regency Red 1969 Series 2 roadster.
Iris Blue 1962 MGB roadster

only a small E type mention, but interesting non the less...................

Baby you can drive my car?
Four cars that once belonged to members of The Beatles will be reunited on the Classic and Sports Car stand in hall 9 at this year?s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. The Fab Four were originally brought together for an article that appears in the November issue of the magazine. They were photographed at Cliveden House, where some of the filming for ?Help!? took place.
John, Paul, George and Ringo each indulged their passion for cars as their fame and wealth grew. Their collections included Jaguar E-types, Mini Coopers and even a Hispano-Suiza limousine, but C&SC will display four fabulous GTs.
John Lennon?s 1968 Iso Fidia is one of two that he owned, and he bought it for ?6150 at the ?67 Earls Court Motor Show. According to his first wife Cynthia, Lennon?s driving skills apparently left much to be desired, which must have made being a passenger interesting in this 5.3-litre Italian-American hybrid.
Paul McCartney?s 1966 DB6 has been the subject of a comprehensive restoration by Aston Martin Works. The car?s reel-to-reel tape recorder was removed and placed in secure storage as part of the rebuild. It was on this device that McCartney began to piece together ?Hey Jude? while visiting John and Cynthia at St George?s Hill.
George Harrison was without doubt the biggest petrolhead of the four, and he purchased his gorgeous Giallo Fly Dino 246 soon after the group had split up. The ?quiet Beatle? kept the car for four years and was often seen driving around Henley in the V6-engined beauty.
Ringo Starr purchased his Facel Vega Facel II at the height of Beatlemania in 1964. The UK distributor gave away a gold lighter with each car and, when this example was delivered to his Weybridge home, Ringo?s first question was apparently, ?Got my lighter?? Despite having only recently passed his test, Starr used to indulge in high-speed runs up and down the M4.
The quartet will be displayed on a Beatles-themed stand featuring an Abbey Road backdrop and footage of the Beatles performing from the NBC archive.
