#1 S1 Rear Lights-Part2
Hi Everyone
I've removed my rear light clusters ready for sending them off for re-chroming. I've drilled out the retaining rivets and removed the bulb holders, or more accurately they fell apart.
Can you buy the bulb holders separately or do you need to shell out for complete new units? SNG only list the whole unit so it's not looking hopeful.
Thanks
Alan

I would not think they will sell separately but it may be worth exploring if the bulb holders are common to some other less expensive model of the same period such as a mini. You could then source new or second hand to break down? I am sure they may not be unique if Lucas could get away with using already tooled up parts. Maybe try Holden Automotive who do a lot of "Lucas parts" they may be more helpful about supplying individual components

Thanks for the reply. Yes that's an excellent idea. I've had a look on fleabay and found these:-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161149571261? ... 1423.l2648
They're off an old S-Type Jag and may have the same units as my S1. I've e-mailed the seller with photos and dimensions of my bulb holders. Hopefully a result- ?45 is much cheaper than ?300+.
Cheers

Well the S-Type lights turned out to be a dead end-completely different to the S1 units. Does anyone out there know if the S1 OTS rear light reflector units are common to any other car?
Grasping at straws now but who knows?
Cheers

Sorry I don't but have a feeling they are unique to the E-Type.

#6 Bulb holders
Alan
Do you know if the bulbholders are the same as Series 2, The lights are totally different but the bulbholders may be the same.
If so I can help you.
Steve.

Alan,
There is a solution but it's not cheap and may not suit the purist. Xk's unlimited in the States have now started selling complete inners for the E-Type and they are made up of LED's.
Jerry Mouton off the J-L list has fitted them and says they are really good. You get the indicator, tail lamps and brake lamps in one complete package. The LED's fir inside the original light casting.
The cost is about $220 and then there is shipping, import duty if applicable and VAT to pay on top.

I think I'd be cheaper buying the complete new units from SNG or Hutsons. They retail at ?166(including VAT) but thanks for the info anyway.
Steve
If you drop me a PM with your e-mail address I'll forward on photos and dimensions of the S1 reflector units. It is possible that although the external rear light was totally redesigned for the S2, the reflectors may have been the same. Lucas were always looking for ways to save costs!
Cheers

I've been trawling the internet for Parker Kalon slot headed screws. I'm assuming these are the correct screws for the front and rear sidelights on the S1.
I've found the following:-
https://www.canleyclassics.com/?xhtml=x ... iagram.xsl
I measured the screws in the front lights and they are 1/2" long and 0.175" in diameter.
Looking at the Canley Classics list the head is a type B but I'm not sure what "No" corresponds to the diameter.
It doesn't appear to have the nipple on the end of the thread either. But if I can get the right size in stainless steel then it would be close enough.
I'll contact them tomorrow to find out more info.
