Hi Everyone,
Having admired E-types for many years, I reckon it's time to either do something about it or to get off the pot!
I don't like wasting peoples' time so am I dreaming if I would hope to buy an ok runner that could be upgraded / refurbished over time for around ?30k? I realise this probably means a 2+2, which given I'm just over 6 foot and have a "rugby player" build may be no bad thing.
It would be kept garaged but the plan would be an annual trip to Le Mans and a road trip around Spain this Summer.

Wouldnt it be better to buy submarine if Somerset is your place ?
We will go to exmoor this summer and have seen frightening pics on the News.....

Welcome to the forum.
Best thing to do is try all the options.
I'm 6'2" and am of the same, as you call it, rugby player build. I have an S1 OTS undergoing restoration & it will be snug on me. Main problem with the early cars is the non reclining seats but I'm having mine reupholstered with minimal foam to give me some more headroom plus will omit the seat rails. I will also be looking at pedal adjustment options for improved legroom.
Whilst I was at Hutsons on Thursday I sat in all the variants & must admit that the 2+2 was a much better fit for me.
Pricewise I think you'll get something for the money you're talking about. There's lots of advice on this forum as to what to look out for. Main thing is to spend as much as you can on the best quality car you can find else it will cost you significantly more in the long run. Alternatively, buy yourself a complete basket case (as I did) in the knowledge that you're going to completely rip it apart & start again.
Any clues as to what model you're looking for - s1, s2, s3 ?

You could also consider buying a lhd car. It's much cheaper to convert a good lhd car to rhd than to restore a bad rhd !

Several points to consider :
1. Decent lhd cars are not all that easy to come by . Quite a lot of California cars are rotten as pears as a result of 50 years by the sea. Florida cars have had to cope with high humidity and therefore condensation and again can be very rotten in the hollow sections. So, be careful - and NEVER buy sight unseen
2. 30k will buy you a very decent 2+2 , particularly an S2 one which personally I think are better looking because of the sloping screen
3. The 2+2 is a very nice touring car indeed, with loads of space and better headroom. I find my pal's 2+2 much more refined than my FHC
4. If you are tall in the body the OTS is a mixed blessing. In mine, I sit with my eyeline well above the top of the screen and if it rains this is very uncomfortable !

Hi Carsten,
Don't panic, as always the media likes to exaggerate. The Somerset levels are underwater but most of the county is fine even if sodden!
Don't e-types float?!

Thanks Neil,
The dream would be a S2 roadster but I'm doubting my ?35k max would get even a serviceable one for occasional use whilst it is upgraded over a period of say 3 years.

Good point. I have no problem with lhd having lived abroad for several years and in some ways, would prefer lhd.

The S2 2+2 seems the most likely but when push comes to shove, I just know the S2 roadster is a much better looking car! But beggars can't be choosers etc....

I am looking at a S1 OTS as well and am the same height and build and have the same dilemma. My S3 2+2 is extremely comfortable so I have been spoilt, have you tried out a S1 with all the mods you mention above? and if so was that OK? Is there no scope at all to push the seat back by mods to the car?
