#1 Speaker grill fixing nuts

Post by tim wood » Mon Aug 25, 2014 3:44 pm

Hi, I am refinishing the radio console on my 4.2 series 1. I need new speaker grills which I can get from the usual sources .i also need the fixing nuts.

Does anyone know know the correct thread size. I have numerous small nuts but none which fit.

Thanks
Tim

2BA IIRC but I have a selection of various sizes and just grabbed the ones that looked to be correct.

Do you mean the chrome dome nuts on the centre console? I simply used the same ones that are fitted to the cam covers (perhaps that was not original?) but the seemed to spin on the threads

Thanks Chris. I was referring to the nuts that fit the small studs inside the console that hold the speaker and grill in place. I think I have sorted that now.

You are correct on the use of cam cover nuts on the outside, that's what I propose to use.

Just for the record, the best fit I could find for the studs on my S1 speaker grilles was 3/16" UNF nyloc.

Thanks, I've refitted it all now. Can't recall what I used but never did find an exact match. Close enough I guess and no stress on these parts.

Regards

Tim
