#1 Mounting Position of Ignition Coil

Post by Eric Capron » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:47 am

I have been in discussion with Richard Liggitt on jag-lovers about where the coil should be mounted on Series II cars. Late cars have the coil mounted on the picture frame and have a coil with a ballast resistor. On earlier cars the coil is fitted to a pair of brackets on the engine breather but without resistor.

It appears that the change from non-ballasted to ballasted coincided with the move in position but my car has wiring for the ballasted type but the coil is on the breather.

Does anyone else one this forum have this configuration - ie coil with ballast resistor on engine breather?

Eric

#2 Mounting position of ignition coil

Hello Eric.
When I acquired my 1970 series 2 OTS it had the coil mounted on the picture frame and it had no ballast resistor or wiring for a ballast resistor. I have now fitted a 123 distributor.
Steve.

Hi Steve,

That's very interesting because my car is very early 1970 (Reg. 2nd Jan) and built October '69. It's 1R1400. Is your car an earlier or later number?

Eric
