Eventually I left the seal that fits the retainer all the way to the top of the B post and then used the other seal for the door. Fortunately my trimmer is fitting this and I believe he glues it as well as squeezing it in the retainer. Sorry the car is not with me to see how he got on but having checked a lot of cars they all seem to have the seal in your third picture fitted. Hope this helps.

Get correct door seal.

C O H Baines, for starters?

thank you for your answers.
I guess that all the S1 FHC owners have faced the same issue, and found a solution ..?
@ Andrew
I tried to squeeze in the rubber but the bottom leg is too wide and spongy and pops out, even with glue.
Another option is to glue on top of the retainer, but that could affect the door closing.
Or to remove the retainer.

@ Peter
sure, where do I get the correct seal?
I've tried SNGB and Baines, they both sent me the one I've pictured.
SNG does not know there is a misfit but they do sell the A post retainer !

Then I will try the quarter light seal which fits perfectly in the retainer.
However I don't know if the door upper frame will seat properly on it.
Worth a try...

Surprising. I got a better shape from Baines a few years ago. Overall a bit smaller I think (though it's hard to compare without a side-by-side shot). More 'vee shaped' with pointed ends than u-shaped, and with a much neater foot, though with the unequal arms which are correct.

here is the seal from Coh Baines:

Obviously the foot on the left cannot fit in the thin retainer...

I think it will have to be glued on top of the seal retainer. I also found out that it pops as it doesn't really have a definable groove to locate in the retainer. As I mentioned I have seen lots of FHC with these very same seals. Good luck.

thanks, I'll keep you posted.
As you know I have to wait for the trim before glueing anything permanently.
In the meantime I'll test the QL seal.

Rubber parts... !
Probably they made the 'smart' decision to stock only one door seal for all the FHC series.
Then why are they still supplying the retainers for S1 with no seal to fit in?
we all search for perfection, their logics are different.

according to the parts catalogue, there is no retainer on S2.
I agree that taking them out seems a wise solution.
But there are plenty of rivets, they are sealed underneath, and the RH side is completely welded by body paint.
A potential mess opposed to something as simple as fitting the right seal in the channel...
I guess I have no choice, but I'll try the QL seal before cracking the paint along the roof, which won't be hidden by the seal.
thanks for your concern.
