Post by Herbie » Fri Jan 02, 2015 6:31 pm

Hello All,

Going to collect a restoration project 68 FHC tomorrow that was imported from the states-Holland then to the Uk 2 years ago but wasn't registered with the dvla. What documentation do you guys think i will need to make sure I pick up tomorrow?

Many thanks in advance.

Richard

P.s. Pictures will follow tomorrow.

Hi Richard,

I'm not sure on the exact ins & outs of dealing with imported cars and probably worth trawling DVLA & HMRC websites to get the full details, but I'd be looking for stuff along the following lines:
1. Proof that it's been correctly imported and all duties paid. Or if you are to pay the duties then the correct forms to enable you to do this. I also believe the NOVA system is used nowadays to notify DVLA of an arriving imported car - has this been done ?
2. Heritage Cert to check all numbers
3. Receipt for your purchase (to prove you bought it after it was imported) - just in case

It may be that it hasn't been registered with DVLA due to the fact that I don't believe you can register until you have a valid MOT, which I assume as a project car it doesn't yet have.

Neil

Hi Richard,

That looks nicely together & a good base to start from with decent panel gaps. What's the overall condition & what are the sills & floors like ? Many bits missing ?

Hi Neil,

Thanks, Car overall looks to be very solid, one sill has been replaced but not amazingly so that will be coming out in due course, she will be a long term restoration project once I have finished my current one (morris 8). After having hired a couple of e types this is a dream come true.

Paperwork seems to be all in order so will be sending relevant forms to the dvla in due course.

Car is complete bar front windscreen, boxes and boxes of bits came with it.

Exciting times!

Richard.

Don't blame you.

The Morris project looks interesting too. Did you get it flown in on a retro plane ? :)

Aaaah yes the Bristol Superfreighter, the Morris has a full and amazing history including photohraphs of it brand new in 1935, having been in a stables in the second world war that were bombed, has original 'black out' light cover with it, photos of it infront of the Alps in the fifties etc etc....

Hi All,

Can anyone recommend a decent re-chroming company around surrey/west sussex, and a wire wheel specialist? (not just for the e-type).

Thanks

Richard.

Hi Richard,

I had my wire wheels built by Phil Hallewell & he also repairs wheels. He's not exactly local (Uxbridge) but I was very pleased with the wheels supplied - see thread:

viewtopic.php?t=3870&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=40

Phil's website:
http://www.pjhallewellengineering.co.uk/index.html

I've been using YB Plating in Crawley for all my zinc plating. They showed me some examples of their chrome work which looked good (but I can't speak from experience thus far). I had some poor work done by company local to me (I can PM you details). I think there are several different types of plating & you need to be certain of which process a company provides to ensure you get the quality you are after. I'm not sure what they are but I'm sure someone on here will advise preferred process. I think I ended up with the thin electroplating which wasn't sufficiently deep enough to allow pitting to be buffed out.

Regards,
