#1 Which side is your Dataplate

Post by Red Kite » Thu Jan 29, 2015 9:11 pm

As per the title. For S2 RHD FHC 1968.
I have a new plate from the USA and have the opportunity to fit it either side. I thought it was on the left but have looked at photos and seen both left and right. Are their any original photos or manuals which show it in place ?
Gerry.

Mine's LHS (this is post restoration but that's where it's always been):

You're right though that they do seem to crop up on either side.

To add to the survey: My 68 Canadian market FHC is a LHD series 1.5, and the data plate is on the passenger (right) side.

Hi Gerry

I'm going to be replacing my plate as the old one is in very poor condition and I'm wondering where you got your replacement plate stamped with the car and engine number etc?

My existing plate is on the left side - 1969 S2 LHD converted to RHD.

Hello,
In this book ( http://www.jaguarheritage.com/e-type-bo ... r-plu-1054 ) the author mention that all serie 2 and some late serie 1,5 have the data plate on the left side.

I bought one a while back from the UK but never fitted it, too poor quality.

I got my current one here http://classicjaguar.com/cjparts/dataplate.php

Its great quality, a faithful reproduction and they will stamp it for you if you have a heritage certificate. Well worth the extra money.

My car had a reproduction plate fitted when it was restored a few years ago and it was fitted with glu/sealant on the right hand side. As no holes were made, i can chose which side to fit mine. It looks like the left side is correct so i will rivet it on there and use a jointing compound underneath to prevent corrosion.

Thanks Gerry

I'll probably order one from Classic Jaguar although I'm wondering if anyone has had a better experience with a UK supplier than you did?
