#1 What cam covers ?
Hi,
I have a 1970 S2 FHC and it looks like I have replacement Cam covers.
The ones I have seen on other S2 have "Jaguar" embossed on them (mine doesn't) but I think there are variations.
Does anyone have definitive pictures of what should be there ?
Also anyone have any for sale - either S2 or early chrome ones which I think look very nice - any issues on fitting these to a later head ?
thanks
Steve

Here you go. These are mine from my 1969 S2:

Jaguar logo on the right hand cover, but obviously the oil filler cap takes the place of the logo on the left hand cover.
Note too that later in the production run all S2 cam covers started to feature the cut-out for the crossover pipework regardless of whether they were SU-equipped or (US-spec) Stromberg equipped. And there are minor variations at the front end of the covers due to a change during the production life between proud standing bolt fixings and flush/sunken fixings.
AFAIK the earlier smooth cam covers can only be fitted if they are reworked first (someone on here will know), but why bother? Embrace your inner S2! :D

Smooth cam covers are an easy straight fit; the only thing you may need to do is to make a blanking plate for the tacho drive access on the rear of the rh cover .

great thanks - pretty sure mine are wrong then....
I see you have the well between the cams painted silver - was this a "standard colour" also ?
might do that while I have the covers off

Yes - black for the block, silver for the head, and black (with exposed ribs and lettering) for the cam covers.

And there are some variations on the logo if i'm right (depending of the year of production). I can take pictures of my 68 came covers. They are not fitted, but original.

Also the oil filler cap lost the 'Jaguar' logo because it, the logo, moved to the r/h cam cover.

You will also need to fit two studs on the front inner fastener to replace the S2 screws, obviously this will mean you need another two dome nuts. I swapped my covers over, it's an easy job.

The heads are originally bare alloy, not painted.
If you buy XJ covers with the countersunk screw type inner front holes be prepared to fight leaks if you switch to stud and nut fastening.

There are some nice pictures up on Angus's website at the moment showing a restored S2 engine prior to having its ancillaries fitted, which show which bits are black and which bits are silver/bare alloy etc (note the ribs and lettering on the cam covers haven't been flatted back yet though).
