#1 front bumper reassembly

Post by Polse7317 » Sun Aug 30, 2015 8:24 pm

Y am trying to reassemble the front bumper , but y received the car with that :
Image
So Y have cut the front edge of the bumper to be able to fix the overrider .
Image
Y have a bumper bolt kit from SNG but y don't know how to fix it on the car.
Image

Image
Yguess that the 1-3 bolt must be fixed to the 1-1 nut with an adaptative washer 1-2 ? The bumper blade must be fixed on the bonnet with the 2-1 bolt with an angle part Inside the bonnet ?
So you have understood that some pictures of the Inside bumper would be usefull ! and y'll have the same question for the rear bumper , y prepare the pictures.....

Pity. I would have swapped you a good set of standard bumpers for your special overrider-free versions. Too late now you've cut them. Does anyone know where to buy that 9600 HP style?

When have these override-free versions been built, and fitted to which cars ? 3.8 OSBL flat floors ?

And the front edge o f them is welded on the "original" bumper blade . As the hole for fixing the overridder which is welded too

Wow - never seen those before other than on 9600 HP. Maybe they were 'special order' from the original owner? Hope you have not cut the other side! They look so much better than the ones with the badge bar. Suggest you weld them back as per original. Any evidence of prior welding?

Yves,

If these are any help... (I took them when I attached a rally plate holder to the underside of the overrider so pay no attention to the new looking bracket in the first photo).

The washer with the tapered diameter spaces the bumper from the bodywork on the side bolt. It isn't used for the front mounting.

Thanks for the photos, but your bumpers seem to be a little different from mine...

Yes, perhaps. Mines an early 4.2 bumper.

You might find the pictures for bonnet & fittings in the SC Parts catalogue/website better than those by SNGB.

I had mine fabricated

I too would have swapped a perfect set for those you got your car with....they look well shaped, better than mine

Is there somewhere any photos of the front end of the rear bumper? Y don't know how to fix the rubber seal at this end? Must y cut it on each side (up and Under) or use one seal which turn around the front end but it seems impossible .....

one. I glued the rubber to the bumper, in order to guarantee a good holding of the rubber when the bumper is fitted on the car.

Y have also a problem to fix the rear bumper on the rear wing. Y bought at SNG a kit (bbk16 for the rear one) with 2" Nylon washer " which are in aluminium ... Y think that those nylon washer must be fitted beetween the bumper and the rear wing and then the bolt comes from Inside the wing through the washer and has to finish in the thread of the bumper. The kit has only two "nylon washer" , y suppose that the front bolt has no nylon washer?
Am y right ? photos are welcome...... it seems to me strange to fix the conic nylon washer against the paint of rear wing

Y am going on the bumper again and y Wonder how are they fitted on the bonnet: what washer on what bolt , and also how to fix the seal on the bumper ( the clips seem very strange to be correct ! ) Ycan't do anything with them!

Image
Image
My second question is about bolting the bumper to the bonnet. Are my photos correct about the different washers?
Y am also surprised by the thickness of the bonnet which support the bumpers...

Image
So y have fitted a big washer Inside the bonnet and at each side of it a "homemade" rubberwasher . Then the special washer (BD20663) outside beetween the bonnet and the bumper at the front bolt and (BD 20893) roun space washer at the rear bolt .

Y have done a mistake on the photos: the special washers must be one at the front bolt and of course the other one at the rear bolt
