#1 Secondary Throttle Body Worn Spindles

Post by vern jones » Fri Mar 18, 2016 8:01 pm

Hi I have a 69 e type that I bought from California early this year. Would love to convert to triple SU if possible if I can find a set and I do have a wanted ad here to see if I can get a set. But until that time I have a dilemma with my one worn and one broken secondary throttle body spindles. What are my options do I.
The engine runs a tad of on idle and light throttle.
Remove the spindles and tap and plug the bush.
Try and obtain some second hand spindles which will no doubt be worn as well.
Or is there other alternatives. Hope to hear something back.
Many Thanks
Vern

Hi there having read posts it appears they are different to carbs. Not keen on the Strombergs so don't want to spends loads on fixing them rather spend on SUs.

Tap and plug is fine. Epoxy a plug in is also fine. Runs worst at idle because that's the highest vacuum, along with light cruise. You can slip in a length of thin wall 2" tube if I remember correctly, which blanks off the passages as well as the spindle holes.

Thanks for that advice, Mine already runs rough at idle and on light throttle so was hoping it would cure that. I am going to try plugging them and see how I get on. Have looked at SNG and they have two SU conversion one around 3000 and the other around a 1000 more. Any idea of why the price difference.

Hi the sleeves look real good. I plugged the ends and refitted it. Runs so much better now. Still love some SU's mind.
