Anyone live in the Austin, Texas area with an hour to spare?

I am looking seriously at buying the S3 2+2 I highlighted in another thread from CJ Classics in Austin, Texas and although everything seems to stack up OK and they have a good reputation, it would be helpfull if someone could actually lay eyes on the car for me. Is there anyone in the area with a spare hour or so? Danger is from what I see on their website you might buy something for your car if you go there! (BTW I have spoken to Harry Fulford)

Well having had rules of never buying a car I hadn't driven let alone one I haven't seen, I decided that rules are for fools and for the guidance of wise men, so after having had a lot more photos taken and seeing detailed receipts for over $80,000 worth of work done over the last 8 years by Classic Jaguar I have indeed broken my rules and bought it. Only time will tell if I am a wise man or not. :)

It was picked up and transported to Houston early this week and put on its own into a 20' container yesterday. I hope those restraints are better than they look!

Now waiting for the good ship Nansen Straight to arrive at Houston next Wednesday (it's currently heading for Veracruz at 14kt) and then after stops at New Orleans and Charleston ETA Southampton is 10 April.

CJ certainly do have an excellent pictorial blog detailing much of their restoration work. Before I bought the car I found pictures taken during fitting the new Suffolk & Turley interior and some of the earlier repainting.

I decided to pay double the shipping cost for a dedicated 20' container rather than the more usual 40' which have 2 cars on a single level or 4 cars in a double deck arrangement.This was after hearing tales of cars being climbed over when lashings are being fixed and in the case of double deckers of top level cars leaking oil, coolant or dirt onto the cars below. For shared containers there was also the issue that your car may have to wait longer in a warehouse or on the dockside whilst other cars turn up to fill a large container. Mine arrived at the port, spent one day in a warehouse with other cars and was in its container the next day so it limited the time it was vulnerable to damage and theft of parts - longer time being hot in a container though!

Well the ship left Houston on Friday - hopefully with my car aboard - and after heading out into the Gulf of Mexico it has now wound its way up the Mississippi and is docked in New Orleans. Due to leave today then next stop Charleston on Wednesday.

Wondering which rustproofing system (Dinitrol, Waxoyl, any others?) to use and who to trust to do it given that a new interior was recently fitted to the car. I used Waxoyl myself back in a 1990's summer and remember it being quite a messy job. There is a firm called Ultimate who offer both treatments - has anyone used them?

Unfortunately the ship is only fitted with the small block engine so it will take a while.
