I Wonder if i have the right bumper ? at the beginning, i have this :

I have now fitted the overrider on and when i bolt the bumper on the bonnet i have not enough space between the chrome blade and the turning light . I have no "notch" on the upper side of the bumper like on the rear one. Does the serie one bumper has a notch ?

On the photo below it seems that i must have a "notch" of the bumper

Yes your bumpers are wrong - they should have an indent for the side/indicator housings. The car seems to have had indicators below the bonnet and no over-riders when you bought it. I wonder where those bumpers came from? Maybe custom made.

Yes David , the indicators where below and custom made.... I think that i have to fit two new bumpers with indents .....it's a pity, i have had so much work to fit the overriders on those bumpers... what a waste !!!

Be prepared to grind the new bumpers to match the bonnet contours. Suggest you get the chrome stripped off first and get them re-plated when you are happy. Never understood why the usuals only sell chromed bumpers - they should offer a bare metal version at reduced cost

David is right. From what all that has been written, the best if not the only way to get a proper fit would be to work unfinished bumpers and overriders to desired compliance, then chrome. Even if I, doing a home budget resto, may not fit the shoe, may the suppliers heed the call.

Yves,
Obviously what you have in hands are S2 bumpers.
As David says, you will have to procure the correct S1.
New repro are regretfully of lower quality than originals. Since you have to go for adjusting/grinding/rechroming, I would recommend you look for some old ones in acceptable condition then adapt and rechrome.
Il y'a eu r?cemment une annonce sur lbc pour des lames, fais une recherche "jaguar e type pare-choc".
Good luck,

Yves, The bumper in your photo is a later series one part, David is not correct about them all being the same. The 3.8 bumper bolts on from the inside of the bonnet, with the nut welded onto a plate in the bumper blade. The one shown bolts on from the outside, with the nut part of a bracket in the bonnet. You could use it, by adding the bonnet bracket piece or just bolting it straight through, but the recesses on the bottom edge of the blade will give it away if anyone knows. -Mark

That would be one for the 4.2 Factory Fit thread I guess. The SPC lists the part numbers of the blades as being the same for all cars up until September 1966 when the SWB cars adopted the same bumper bar assembly (and bonnet) as used on the 2+2; SPB P.173 refers. It does mean different fitting hardware is required but other than that the later S1 bumpers will fit the earlier cars. For Yves purpose the later bumpers will be fine.
