#1 idiots guide to seatbelt fitting on 1973 ots

Post by jivili » Thu May 05, 2016 7:16 pm

when I bought my car a lot of the interior trim had already been removed and arrived in boxes
I have just come to fit the seatbelts ( kangoll reflex) and I had presumed that they fasten to the tapped hole in the bottom sill with the end of the strap fastened to the top inside of the b pillar
On fixing them like this and then fitting the seat I find that the seat won't travel fully backwards as it hits the seatbelt reel on the lower sill
What am I doing wrong?
I looked in the parts manual and it seems to show the inertia reel at shoulder height?
If it goes there surely it will foul the soft top?
It may seem a stupid question but having never seen the correct arrangement I can't figure out what is going wrong

Thanks in advance

Dean

Have you seen Chris Vine's website with his version of inertia seatbelt fitting. Whether you can do this to your S3 I'm not sure, but might be worth looking at.

The reels attach at the back of the cabin above the parcel shelf at sides of the car. The rh attachment point is by the key/release lever for the boot.

kind regards

That spot at the top of the B pillar is where the hard top bolts to the body - as mentioned, the seat belts bolt the the threaded holes behind the seats above the rear parcel tray.

Early series 3 had the non inertial seat belts and later had inertial belts. On my early car I put in after market inertial reels mounted behind the seats and the hoof frame and hood does not cause any issues.

Cheers
