After years of struggling removing and installing rear shock absorber springs with clamps that are just about suitable and lengths of chain wrapped around the springs securely fastened to my bench vice I have now decided enough is enough and its time to purchase sometime purpose made for the job.
I spent ages looking on the Internet, and also at home made fabricated items on YouTube but can't really find anything suitable. Does anyone know of a make / model number of a quality coil spring removal compressor that will undertake the job without the fear of having springs and clamps flying across the garage!
Thanking you in advance.

Alex,
If you are using the original collet type retainers, then you can use threaded rod and some brake discs, see http://www.jag-lovers.org/snaps/snap_vi ... 1259347862
This won't work if you are using an aftermarket shock with a "C" shaped retainer. Here you can use a disc at the bottom, and the rods & hooks for the top, see http://www.jag-lovers.org/snaps/snap_vi ... 1388932920

Hi Alex.....you need the type they use in the motorbike shops......if you have a shock and spring take it in to your local bike shop and see what model they use.....but may be cheaper just to get them to remove and replace the springs
