Hi - I've had a good look round the forum but can't see an answer to this one.
Can anybody tell me when the cam covers were changed from smooth to ribbed (or point me in the right direction if this has been answered already?) I've read the JCNA version of the S1 1/2 (ie the '68 MY) but there are plenty of things in there that don't seem to apply to non-US cars (like mine from Dec '67).
I found a list of S1 1/2 changes listed by chassis number in an old Paul Skilleter book, but the cam covers are not mentioned. Is there a 'right' answer?
many thanks
Correct cam covers for Series 1 1/2?

The trouble is , there is no such thing as a Model year 1968 . Jaguar just did not do things that way, but being a small(ish) scale producer made incremental changes as parts bins became empty ! Thus the JCNA guides, whilst interesting, are based on a concept that did not in fact exist with European manufacturers

Maybe the 1.5 series had a mixed: intake smooth and exhaust ribbed

The info only gets into the JCNA guides IF it is found written in factory documentation, or (rarely) if it is found on a number of fully verified and documented original cars. Not just "My mate bought it nearly new and is sure the old guy before him didn't mess with it."
The year nomenclature differs in US/Europe ( or at least UK) but car serial numbers are constant across all markets and are what the changes are ultimately correlated to and verified by.
The general complaint about the JCNA guides is that they are too conservative and set the bar unfeasibly high for additions/changes, as some here have found to their chagrin. The committee is rightly regarded as ultra-picky about what constitutes reliable and sufficient evidence for an amendment.
The corollary of that attitude is that what does make it into the JCNA guides, though not perfect, is reliable info and can't be swatted away as generalisation or inaccurate - certainly not for the North American market from which many cars here originate and about which Gaydon and the UK heritage people have only rudimentary knowledge.
