#1 Stromberg to SU Carbs breather

Post by Marcus2571 » Mon Sep 26, 2016 2:04 pm

Having changed from Stromberg to SU carbs is there any need to change the crankcase breather pipe on the engine? My car currently discharges downwards to atmosphere.

I note other cars fitted with SU's are piped back into the air cleaner where the crankcase emissions form part of the inlet fuel mixture.

Thanks,

Mark

Where did it go before? (I don't know the Stromberg cars)

If the air cleaner has a connection already then I would go with that. I would probably install a puke tank rather than starting to braze pipes into the air cleaner housing.

Stromberg went to atmosphere I believe.

Just wondering if I'm getting the most out of the new SU's and could cause other performance issues?

Crankcase breather on an S2 goes to the air intake box on the top between the carburetor connections. That is the same for SU or Stromberg. The pipe route and position can be different depending on the setup SU/Stromberg and the Engine Variation 1/2/3

Thanks Mark - mine currently goes to atmosphere following a change from LHD to RHD and from Stromberg to SU.

Should I look to have it connected back to the air filter?

Thanks

Thanks Steve, did you notice anything different in the engine when you disconnected the breather?
