#1 50,000 miles

Post by chrisfell » Fri Oct 07, 2016 2:54 pm

...and counting.

Today, after 13 years of driving around this island and the near continent, my car ticked over 50,000 miles since the day I bought it. (Brief caveat here. That 50,000 miles is as recorded by the speedo, and I know that a substantial portion of the mileage was recorded when the car wore 65 profile tyres. The mileage would have been slightly exaggerated.)

This event passed while I was returning from a weekday trip to mid Wales. There we drove along lots of wee mad roads over mountain passes, around lakes and through forests, and along some of the prettiest valleys these islands have to offer. (The Golden Valley deserves its name.)

Well done Sir! Many would be jealous of anyone who's driven 50k miles in an E Type!

I used to go scrambling with the Golden Valley club but those races were around the Cotswold area. Are there two Golden Valleys? Well done on the mileage. Yesterday I was fixing a 1996 XJ 12 that the lady owner had not driven fifty miles since I last got it going for her around March after two-year lay up. Jags do best when driven regularly.

It's quite an achievement and unusual these days, although I think Heuer may also have covered this sort of distance in his OTS

Golden valley ( Herefordshire for Peter Crespin ) is a lovely drive as is almost anywhere in the Marches - lucky you

Here's to many more years of enjoyment for you
