#1 Another new member from the US

Post by SRK » Sun Dec 18, 2016 5:11 pm

Hi all, I bought this 1973 with 24K miles on it about a month ago. It had been sleeping for 7 years in a garage covered and ventilated. Amazingly, no critters found its way to its wires or openings. I got it to my shop and after a few hours of tinkering was able to get it running. The engine is very smooth but after I drove it around the lot for a few minutes and put it on the rack, I could see lots of transmission fluid pouring out of the steering rack. I now have a rebuilt rack and tons of spare parts (gaskets, hoses, belts, engine electrical, carb kits and all of the brake parts rebuilding kits) Not sure what I will need but the bits were available and relatively inexpensive so I stocked up. I have a week off for Christmas and my gearhead son visiting so we will have some fun doing as much as we can. Goal being to get it inspected before I head back to work.
The car is in Hawaii so if I'm missing something I'm out of luck:-( I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as we get into it so thanks in advance!!!

Cheers

Steve

Congrats and welcome to the forum. The "knowledge base" section of this board is loaded with good information, as are the members.

Steve, welcome to the forum and well done for finding such a low mileage car.
Have you bought the service manuals?

And as Tbob says, look in the knowledge section and ask questions for you'll get lots of help on the forum.

Looks fabulous. Can't wait for the invite to Hawaii to look at it!

I surfed the knowledge base and it is very impressive. I'm sure it will be a great help. Right after I bought the car I did download the service manual from a UK site. It worked great so know I have it on both my computer and Ipad (getting on the pad was a little painful however).
