#1 S1 OTS Boot Floor - cable clamps

Post by Philk » Mon Jan 02, 2017 12:17 pm

Hi All - I've recently taken possession of a July 1962 S1 OTS for long-term restoration. At present, I am doing loads of research on the car (it had a not so good restoration done on it in the 1980's so I'm keen to take it back to original as far as possible). One area of interest is the boot/trunk floor. On the edge of one of the strengthening ribs are some cable clips (see pictures attached). Can anyone please let me know if these are original to the car and, if so, what they would be used for. None of the material I've got/read has shed any light on this thus far. Many thanks!

That's really helpful - thank you. I've found the following photo of a FHC floor - I'm not sure though that the cable is for the number plate lights since they're above that point on the car. The wires to the right of that cable are for the reversing lamp which is lower down. It also looks quite a solid cable that is secured via the clips. I'll carry on the research.

...and as a further follow-up, the "cable", in the next picture I've found does not seem to go anywhere (the picture is the other end from the picture in my last post). It more looks like a tube of some description. Most weird. Any other ideas?

Hello,

I believe the two clips secure your Shelly jack handle. The jack handle is what you see attached to the two clips in your photo.

That is very useful to know - thank you. As it turns out, that may mean that these clips are redundant in my car since a month before it was built, Jaguar introduced the cantilever jack which my car has. As such, my body-shell is probably a "hang-over" from that point where the clips were present but not used.
