Fuel pipe

Evening all,
I wish to replace the fuel pipe from tank to filter on my series 1. The existing pipe is a mixture of nylon or rubber.
I intend to use copper pipe but need to know whether this is 5/16 or 3/8 size.

Any help appreciated

It's been a bit cold to progress with this however ....
Now knowing that the pipe size is 5/16 ( thanks) I can buy this from many sources but I can also buy 8mm pipe suitable for ordinary plumbing from places like Wickes for around half the price.

The difference twixt 5/16 and 8mm is extremely small and being a tight git I would like to make the saving. Does anyone have thoughts as to why this wouldn't work?

There is really no reason why you shouldn't use 8mm pipe . You may have slight difficulty getting the olive to give a good seal at the tank end, but I doubt that this is insoluble .However, you need to be aware that it is for all practical purposes impossible to fit the pipe ( of whatever sort ) unless you remove the rear suspension

You'll be fine with 8mm, as long as you use 8mm olives.

iirc the fitting of the pipe is an IRS out job.

Just the bulkhead fitting is doable with the IRS, but it is a 2 man job, and even then, both of them have to be pretty stubborn.

It was hard enough on a bare painted shell up on a dolly.
The tricky bit is the radius where it goes across from the rear chassis leg and then under the floor. I managed to kink the first attempt even with a good pipe bender. I'll post some pics when I get home.
